ABOUT GFGM

gastronomy
ɡaˈstrɒnəmi/
noun
  1. the practice or art of choosing, cooking, and eating good food.

Good Food, Good Mood was established after I realised how often I was asking myself the difficult question of "Where and what should we eat today?". The Melbourne food scene truly makes us spoilt for choice, so I am hoping my honest reviews can act as a guide for any occasion - from cheap eats to fine dining, to burgers and pizza on cheat days, to fresh and healthy on cutting days. Recommendations on places to try and review are always welcome, just leave a comment.

All photos are taken with my Samsung Note 4 or Sony NEX-F3 unless stated otherwise. Thanks for dropping by!

P.S. Shoutout to my friends and family who dine with me - thanks for not picking up your cutlery when the food comes out so I can take all my food photos... y'all know my camera eats first haha.

The People's Market

Humans are curious beings. We enjoy the thrill of new experiences, colours, live music and food. We want to attend festivals and markets so that we can be surrounded by like minded people. The People's Market was a sea of individuals who had amazing wardrobes. Everyone was so 'indie/alternative' looking which was kind of overwhelming. It really felt like summer with the fake grass area and tables with umbrellas... this summer has been extremely frustrating to say the least. The weather is too cold and I've only been to the beach twice since November. I wanted to work on my tan, man!

This market has been open since the first day of December, but I finally paid a visit today. I'm so glad that it's open until April, because I want to go again, again and again. We went pretty late so all the awesome market stuff was closed and the majority of foods were sold out. On Saturdays they have market days which I'm really keen on visiting. Today we were initially meant to go to the Sandown Chinese New Year Festival, but could not be pooped with the drive. It's actually so far out (the festival used to be at the Docklands shed about a decade ago, but they migrated to such a distant location)!!! I'm so glad we made the decision of going here because he environment is like no other.

Everyone is a sucker for tacos. There aint no denying. Dona Tona is pretty basic Mexican food, but the pop up store concept at the market is awesome!!!

Wowee! $18 dinner between two people. The tacos were $5 each which is pretty standard if you're eating anywhere in Melbourne. We ordered an ox tongue taco which was excellent (but did not have enough filling) and a veggie taco! The veggie one was originally for me, but we ended up swapping because I thoroughly enjoyed the ox tongue.

What does ox tongue taste like?
It just tastes like really soggy beef. If I gave you the taco and told you it was beef, you probably couldn't tell the difference. The texture is a bit different to beef, as it's not as chewy and tough. Don't be afraid to try something new every once in a while. If you're daring enough to click this link you will see different types of tacos, and the ox tongue itself. Enjoy!

The corn was $5 and it was MASSIVE AND SOOOOO SWEET!!! We ordered the third last corn cob for the entire night, and he was trying to persuade us to buy another one but it was sold out by the time we decided :( the chipotle aioli dripped off the corn by the time our tacos were ready which was disappointing. I think I need to bring along floss or toothpicks if I know I'm going to a mexican restaurant because the corn ALWAYS FINDS A WAY TO GET STUCK IN MA TEEF! It's so frustrating.

COMA - Containers of Modern Art

This hand really reminded me of the monkey paw in the Simpsons episode where it granted four wishes. What would you wish for if you were given a monkey paw? Money? Houses? Cars? Food?

I'm starting to get the hang of it! Love using it so much :)

Adding this to my "quotes I should live by" list - especially because of the 'be merry' part.

Looks like he's very inspired by the tattoo artist Angelique Houtkamp.
